SCORA-Xchange
SCORA-Xchange is an international project, which is the third, after SCORE and SCOPE program which enables Medical Students associated within IFMSA, traveling worldwide during holidays. Clinical clerkship contributed to HIV/ AIDS issues, STIs and reproductive health as general are the main focuses of SCORA-Xchange. The program has been recognised as an IFMSA project since 2002.
There are 11 countries in the world that organize SCORA- Xchange, which are: Sweden, Romania, Poland, The Netherlands, Hungary, Turkey, DENEM-Brazil, Serbia, Sudan, Estonia and Egypt. Every year there are more NMO's that are interested in having SCORA-Xchange in their country.
The program lasts for about 3 weeks during holidays. It takes place in 11 countries that were mentioned above and in countries that would apply for it after March Meeting 2008.
Incoming students visit approx. 3 cities, where they take part in clinical classes. Usually they are organized in contagious or obstetric wards. Participants observe the way patients are treated in the country they visit, they gain practical knowledge and new skills.
There are seminaries during which students can share their experience and discuss the issues of reproductive heath. Participants are asked to have a short presentation on reproductive health issues in their countries. It is an introduction to further conversation. It is a great chance to get information about HIV preventing policy, social life and social attitude towards reproductive health in different countries.
After classes there is a lot of sightseeing and facilities. Participants explore the culture of the country they visit. They learn basics on history and ,sometimes, try to learn few words in the new language.
SCORA-Xchange requires accommodation, good contacts at the university's hospital, few people that would take care after incoming students and an idea how to spend free time.
Goals:
To establish unified preventing HIV/AIDS youth policy.
To train well educated ,in matters of reproductive health, future doctors, that would not follow the common stigma of HIV/AIDS and that would be aware of the needs of the patients affected with STIs.
To provide members of SCORA with complete knowledge about HIV/AIDS, viriology, epidemiology, world's most prominent preventing actions, new scientific discoveries in fighting the epidemy.
To raise tolerance among future doctors and their enviroment.
To show to the students ethic aspects of relation doctor-patient.
To inspire young people to find new ways of preventing HIV/AIDS and fighting prejudice.
To encourage research on HIV/AIDS.
To create a well integrated SCORA Team
