AMSA is a international student organisation formed by medical students' associations in Asia and Oceania. It has 10 regional members representing Australia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, The Philippines and Papua New Guinea. The main activity is having scientific (cultural) conferences. Every year AMSA has the Asian Medical Students' Conference (AMSC) and East Asian Medical Students' Conference (EAMSC).

AMSC 2005 Kuala Lumpur, Malyasia

This year, the AMSC will be held in Malaysia on July 24-31. The theme of the conference is TECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE: EMBRACING THE PROGRESS, SERVING THE PEOPLE.

Technology has moved from just being used in the industries to hospitals for curing the sick. With the rapid advancement of technology, it has given people more hope on curing various sicknesses than ever before. However, we do not just rely on the machines to take care of us, we, as doctors have the responsibility of understanding and embracing technology; to understand its impact, its influence, its inevitability.

Participating delegates will have the opportunity to attend symposiums, listen actively to speeches by distinguished scientists and professors, join in hands-on small groups activities, gain knowledge about technology advancement from different countries around Asia through paper and poster presentations. East Asian Medical Students' Conference (EAMSC)

Aside from the annual Asian Medical Students' Conference held every July, there is also the smaller version of AMSC called the East Asian Medical Students' Conference held sometime between December and February each year for four days. Similar to the AMSC, in EAMSC, students will also:

• present paper and poster presentation
• technical tours of hospitals and surrounding community
• attend keynote lectures by distinguished professors of host country
• hold small-group discussions led by group moderators
• perform in the spectacular Cultural Show
• attend sight-seeing tours

Even though it only consists of medical students from East Asia, the spirit and purpose of this conference is just as significant as those portrayed in AMSC. This year, the theme of EAMSC was "Health", and it was held in Osaka, Japan. Next year, the EAMSC will be held in Indonesia, hope to see you there!
